The punga poo is scientifically known as Pongamia pinnata. It is a multipurpose leguminous tree that has non-edible oil. The punga poo is also known as Karanja.

 

Sans- Karanja; Naktamala, Eng- Indian Beech, Hind- Karani; Kiramal, Punj- Sukhchain, Ben- Dahar- Karanja; Nata-Karanga, Bom- Karanja, Mah- Kidamar, Tel- Kanuga- Chettu, Tam& Mal- Pungam-maram, Can- Honge-mara, Kon- Karinje- rooku.

Part Used: Seed, Stem, Leaves, Fruits, root and oil from the seeds.

Uses: Oil is used to skin disesases, in scabies, sores, herpes and like cases of eczema. the bark is used  in bronchitis and whooping cough, harassing cough and scorpion- sting.

Uses.-Plant and dired spiny fruits are used in decoction or infusion in cases of spermatorrhoea,phosphaturia,diseases of the genito-urinary system such dysuria,ganorrhoea,gleet,chronic cystitis,calculous affections,urinary disorders,incontinence of urine,gout and impotence. Water rendered mucilaginous by the plant is drunk as a remedy for impotence and an infusion of the stem is administered in gonorrhoea. It is generally given with hyoscyamus and opium conditions of the urinary passages etc.It has rich in antispasmodic and antibacterial properties. Uses: The leaves, flowers, fruits and roots of adathoda are used to cure various diseases such as coughs, colds, asthma, skin infections, fever, bleeding piles and inflammation etc.  Akkaraa, to treat rheumatoid arthritis, seizure disorders, erectile dysfunction and  indigestion. Ashwagandha is an ancient herb used in Ayurveda to relieve stress, increase energy, and improve concentration.
