Description
Eng- Cinnabar, Hind- Singraff, Tam- Jadhi or Jathi Lingam , Tel- Ingilikam, Ingileekam
Lingam and Cinnabar refer to the same substance in traditional Siddha medicine: a red, mercury sulfide mineral (HgS) used for its purported healing properties, though its heavy metal content makes it toxic and requires extensive purification before use in remedies like Linga Chendhuram. While “Lingam” also refers to the aniconic representation of the Hindu deity Shiva, in a medicinal context, it is synonymous with the mineral cinnabar, used as a potent, detoxified herbo-mineral ingredient.
also known as ingulikam, Inkuligam, Senthuram, Rasa Chenduram
Cinnabar (mercuric sulfide, HgS) is a red mineral used in traditional Indian medicine (Ayurveda and Siddha) and as a pigment.
